The New York Giants are fresh off a playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers and while many are focused on a wide receiver yacht party, Jason Pierre-Paul is preparing to become one of the most sought after defensive players in free agency.
It’s no secret that the Giants defense, not offense, was the reason the team went 11-5 during the regular season and JPP played a major role in that success.
Last season JPP accepted a 1-year, $10 million deal to “prove himself” and he did just that. It’s now time for the Pro Bowl caliber DE to cash out.
“I proved it. I showed it,” Pierre-Paul said. “There’s not really a guy like me out here doing it with 7.5 fingers.”
We will bypass the fact that JPP is the only 7 1/2 fingered player in the league and instead agree that there are few edge rushers with his talent.
The Giants spent a lot of money their defense last season, with great results, but it’ll be hard for them to again pump in huge guaranteed money this offseason. Both JPP & DRC will garner major interest from other teams, so don’t be surprised to see one or both walk away from the Giants.
