Carmelo probably understands now he is never going to win a title with Knicks.
There is just no conceivable way in the near future that can happen and he is already on the backside of his career.
He has made a ton of money, so maybe now he is thinking simply about ring chasing. He has a no-trade clause, so the Knicks can’t just ship him to Sacramento or anything, but according to Charley Rosen who is a close to Phil Jackson, Melo would waive his no-trade clause to go play with LeBron or Chris Paul.
CARMELO ANTHONY’s legs are going, going, almost gone. As ever, he’s still a dangerous scorer but resists any offensive game plan that limits his one-on-one adventures. Moreover, his sticky fingers causes whatever ball-and-player movement is in effect to come to a grinding stop.
Since Melo has been mostly shooting blanks in the clutch it’s really a dead stop.
Also, while he’s never been accused of playing defense, Anthony is intent on saving even more steps on this end of the game to conserve his energy for offense.
Carmelo is four months away from his 33rd birthday, his contract is humongous and contains a no-trade clause. It’s understood that he’d only accept being dealt to the Cavaliers or the Clippers.
All of this sounds very similar to things Phil Jackson has said passive aggressively about Melo in the past.
Do the Cavs or Clippers even want Carmelo?
Probably not, but never underestimate the things GM LeBron can do.
