The people of San Diego are not pleased that owner Dean Spanos is moving the team to Los Angeles. According to The Big Lead, local businessman Ryan Charles has rallied San Diego moving companies to refuse any and all business related to the move.
Charles is a lifelong San Diego resident and a big Chargers fan. He described the thought process behind the effort to unite San Diego moving companies:
We were just sitting there thinking about the physical move of the Chargers. We were thinking we would not want to be a part of that, having been born and raised here and being a lifelong Chargers fan. Other moving companies, our peers, might not want to, either. And wouldn’t it be cool if we all banded together to say that we wouldn’t?
The feedback was immediately positive. I got chuckles, people were laughing, there were guys saying ‘I wouldn’t move them for X amount of dollars.
Thus far 24 companies have agreed to refuse any business related to the move, including 8 LA based moving companies.
The Chargers have been in San Diego for 55 years, so I understand the bitterness regarding the move. Unfortunately the reality fans need to accept is they don’t own the local sports team. The owners do, and sports is a business. A multi-billion dollar business. Owners will always do whatever serves their financial interests.
