One decision that was rumored for a few months is now official. Jets owner Woody Johnson has been appointed as UK ambassador by soon to be President Donald Trump. What does this mean for the Jets?
The Jets ended their season in turmoil but somehow managed to win the last game of the season for the fans as they finished off the season at 5-11. During the season, one rumor was flying around that has now been made official. Jets owner Woody Johnson has been appointed as Trump’s UK ambassador.
Trump, on the eve of his inauguration as 45th president, referred to Johnson, a major Republican fundraiser, as “ambassador” during remarks made at a Washington D.C. luncheon on Thursday and said that he would be “going to St. James,” a reference to the Court of St. James’s.
I know what you’re thinking, “What does this exactly mean?” Let me indulge you.
As we all know, Johnson is a billionaire who endorsed Trump. We’re pretty sure that Trump took note of this. However, this means that Johnson would be required to move to England. In other words, Jets fans will be getting a break.
Pro Football Talk previously reported that if Johnson received the appointment, which would require him to move to the United Kingdom, his younger brother, Christopher Wold Johnson, would take over the day-to-day duties of running the Jets.
Earlier this month, Johnson called reports linking him to the ambassadorship “speculation,” but added that “it would be an honor to be considered for something like that.” He could not be reached for comment on Thursday. The Jets did not respond for a request for information.
Johnson has changed up the menu and for the next few years, politics will be on his plate.
