Before the knee surgeries and the memes, Derrick Rose was the future of the NBA and Chicago royalty. Fan loyalty is a tricky thing. Rose was Chicago’s own: he won a High School State Championship, went number one overall to the Bulls where he won league MVP. Even with Rose on the Knicks, for Bulls fans, Rose is like that ex you wish things worked out with.
Anthony Morrow was sent to the Bulls in a deadline deal with the Thunder. You’d think common sense would tell Morrow to pick a number other than “1” upon getting shipped to the Windy City. He chose poorly and Bulls fans were not here for the shenanigans.
“Before the game I didn’t see anybody say anything on Twitter or Instagram,” Morrow said. “And then when I sat down I started going through my Twitter mentions and it was like — crazy. [Fans saying] ‘What makes you think you can wear that?’ I’m like, ‘Oh, D-Rose.’ [The media] told me, but I had forgot that quick.
“But I like Derrick, he’s a great guy, that’s my guy, man. And I know what the city means to him and I know what he means to the city. Fans are a part of the sport, and they’re a part of the fan base, so I’m going to respect it.”
The comments came in plentiful, most of them hilarious. Give Morrow credit, he immediately went to twitter to apologize and rectify the situation.

Most athletes usually try to steer clear of the number of former fan favorites. It’s definitely the reason #7 is unofficially retired by the Atlanta Falcons.
