The Kings traded DeMarcus Cousins to the New Orleans Pelicans for essentially a happy meal in one of the most head-scratching deals in league history. Today, Boogie landed in the Big Easy. He joins the 2017 All Star Game MVP Anthony Davis to form on paper a stacked front court.
While the league goes small, New Orleans went big. Cousins pairs with Anthony Davis to form arguably one the best front court duos in recent time. “I think we can wreak havoc on this league” Cousins said today. He’d later go on to call the duo “fire and ice”. Cousins and Davis are 2 of 3 players in the NBA averaging 25+ points and 10+ rebounds (the other being Russell Westbrook).
If you’re the Pelicans you’ve hit the jackpot. New Orleans is currently two and a half games out of the 8th seed in the Western Conference. If they can grab the final playoff spot, awaiting them is a likely first round match-up with the Golden State Warriors. Just making the playoffs and stealing a game or two from Golden State can transform the Pelicans into a destination for free agents.
As for the Kings, Cousins took issue with the way things went down. “The way it was done, the dishonesty that came with it. But I’m okay with it.” Who can blame him, they met with him in his house and told him to his face he’d be going nowhere. The Kings do not host the Pelicans for the remainder of the season. The two however will match-up March 31st when the Kings come to NOLA.
