If you sell drugs in the Philippines, boxing legend Manny Pacquiao wants you dead. Literally. Pacquiao, a Senator in his native country, is pushing for a bill which would impose the death penalty on convicted drug traffickers, according to Boxingscene.
“Drug traffickers deserve the death penalty. We need to take a firm stand against drug traffickers. On a personal level, I can forgive. However, the heinous crime of drug trafficking is committed not just against a person, but against the nation. Drug traffickers deserve the death penalty,” Pacquiao said, according to GMA News. “There is now a need to enact a measure that will decisively repress drug trafficking. We cannot ignore the immensity of the drug problem in our country. We cannot maintain the status quo. We need to take a firm stand against drug traffickers.”
Pacquiao, 38, is seemingly as gentile outside of a boxing ring as he is vicious inside of one – at least that’s the perception. His political views have stirred much controversy over the years.
In 2011, Pacquaio fought to ban condoms in the Philippines and, just last year, was dropped by Nike for saying gays should be put to death. He may have out-righted Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity combined.
