SNY NFL Insider Ralph Vacchiano is reporting that the Giants have released Victor Cruz. This is not a surprise. Since his injuries, Cruz has been unable to regain his Pro Bowl form. Cruz was due $7.4 million in salary in 2017 and carried a $9.4 million salary cap number. Sources tell Vacchiano that Cruz was willing to take a pay cut but none was offered.
This is the business, but we must remember that people are the “actors” in this melodrama we call sports and entertainment. Cruz was an integral part of the Giants winning Super Bowl 46 and will be remembered fondly by the fans and his ex teammates. The Giants are a class organization and they will definitely honor Cruz when his career ends.
