Before Deontay Wilder could enjoy the fruits of his successful title defense over challenger Gerald Washington, the WBC heavyweight champ found himself in a scuffle with heavyweight contender Dominic Breazeale.
Breazeale, a fellow Haymon roster mate who fought on the Wilder/Washington undercard against Izu Ugonoh, has been identified as a future opponent for Wilder. Over the course of fight week, a festering beef between the future combatants reached a boiling point Saturday night.
With different versions of the series of events coming from both sides, here’s what we know:
- Words were exchanged in a Westin Lobby.
- Pushing and shoving ensued.
- Police were called.
Both Wilder and Breazeale have issued statements on their respective social media accounts detailing their side of the events. According to TMZ, Wilder mentioned in the post-fight news conference the on-going beef with Breazeale.
At the present no charges have been filed against anyone involved in the melee. With cameras in abundance to not only to cover the fight but to follow Wilder’s GF Telli Swift, who was filming for the E! Network TV show WAGS, further details will likely emerge.
