The Lakers are 19-37 despite hiring Luke Walton and acquiring some veteran free agents this season, so VP Jim Buss has brought in Magic Johnson to help as a special advisor. Magic recognizes that fixing the Lakers will be a tall order and shared the following with CBS This Morning on what it will take to rebuild the Lakers.
It’s going to take three to five years to get them back rolling again. “It’s different than when I played,” the Hall of Fame Lakers point guard continued. “In today’s NBA, you have to really develop your own players because free-agent movement isn’t like it used to be. You have to make sure you hit a home run when you draft and try to keep the players you have on your roster.”
Luke Walton was asked how he felt about the timeline Magic set and responded with:
“Three to five years sounds normal for a rebuild.”
Well at least Magic and Luke Walton are already on the same page because they will need to work together to revive the Showtime days in Los Angeles.
