Syracuse Head Coach, Jim Boeheim, has had one heck of a ACC Tournament. From downing the tournament in Greensboro and their fiery response to losing the second round, Coach Boeheim just couldn’t catch a break.
One thing we don’t know about Boeheim is that he does appeal to some people and he’s actually pretty close to a lot of the ACC Coaches despite being a Big East guy. During team press conferences, coaches were asked their thoughts concerning Boeheim’s comments and shockingly, they laughed and slightly defended the guy.
Here is the original comment:
I’m not going to be around much longer to care about it, but I think that’s where the value is. I think there’s a huge value in playing the tournament in those places. There’s no value in playing Greensboro, none. It’s there because the league’s been there and the office is there, and they have 150 people that the ACC needs. That’s why it’s there. It should not be there. And I’m saying all that because I don’t give a shit. I’m just saying what’s right. That’s what’s right. Why do you think the Big Ten is coming into New York? It’s business, good business sense. They all say it’s a business. Well, then, let’s start acting like it’s a business.
Here are some of the other ACC Coaches comments,
Coach Larranaga:
First of all, I coached in the ACC in the early ’80s, from ’79 to ’86, and I thought it was the best basketball league in the country then. For a majority of my years there, we played it in Greensboro. I think one year we played it in Atlanta. Another year we played it in the Cap Centre in Washington, D.C. To me, the ACC Tournament, no matter where it’s played, is a tremendous event and deserves the recognition that it does get.
Coach Williams:
This is America. Everybody’s got the right to their opinion. I don’t agree with that. I love moving the tournament around. I think it’s good. But the Masters was played at Augusta National. Augusta’s not a very big town. We keep taking the tournament back there. I still think it’s good for us to move around. I loved Washington, D.C., last year. New York is doing a great job. I love Greensboro.
Coach K:
Well, I can’t be as eloquent as Jim. Let me say this. You have to understand what it’s all about because, when there were eight teams and most of them were on Tobacco Road, Greensboro is a great town and a great fit. But when you’ve got a corporation, it’s now not about — for us, we don’t care if it’s Greensboro, Washington, New York. We don’t go out. We’re sequestered away, watching film, getting ready. The whole thing is for the fans
