Stephen A. Smith says a lot of things in this two-minute video, so let’s break down his points.
The first thing he brings up is Kaepernick’s record as a starting quarterback over the past couple of years.
It is fair to bring that IF you also bring up the dumpster fire that the 49ers have been after they fired Jim Harbaugh.
In spite of that dumpster fire Kaepernick was able to salvage some pretty decent all around numbers coming off injury and with little to no talent around him.
Plenty of NFL teams should be interested in a QB with a 16-4 TD to INT ratio while being 2nd QB rushing yards, but of course they aren’t and we know why.
Stephen A’s second point is if not for the “drama” issue of Kap kneeling he would likely have been signed or at least got some invites by teams.
That is true, but also remember Stephen A. uses the word drama for a protest that was about racial inequality and police brutality. That isn’t drama, these are serious issues that are affecting people of color every day in this country.
Stephen A. then appears to blame Colin Kaepernick for the position he is in by saying he knew he would alienate half of the country with this protest.
I don’t think Kaepernick was thinking in those terms. I think he was a young man who had an awakening and didn’t exactly know what to do about it. When he did something, I doubt he knew how big it was going to be.
It seems Stephen A. is saying is that Kaepernick should have backed down if he wanted to work in the NFL. This is also likely true, but what does that say that we as black men have to back down from wanting things to be fair just to have a job?
Stephen A. continues to harp on Kaepernick not voting. I didn’t like the fact that Kaepernick didn’t vote especially when there was local legislation that could have helped his city and state, but let me tell you this.
I rather a non-voting person who is spending his life helping other people, than a voting person who just sits back, judges and is doing nothing all. So, if you want to knock Kaepernick for not voting that is fine, but you better be doing something yourself to inspire change in this country besides just tweeting and talking loud.
The most disturbing part is Stephen A.’s rant is saying he can’t knock teams for not wanting the “distraction” Colin Kaepernick around.
I would expect Stephen A. someone who makes a living speaking his mind to not essentially say that he agrees with a team not wanting Kaepernick because they can’t muzzle him.
That is just sad to hear that come out of a black man’s mouth, but not surprising.
