HBO’s Real Sports will debut a new episode on Tuesday March 21st at 10 pm EST. One of the segments will detail the story of ex Maryland star Juan Dixon. You remember Juan as the young skinny guard that led the Maryland Terps to their first national title in 2002 and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
During the Terps title run Juan’s story of losing both his parents to AIDS was reported early and often. It was the classic “underdog” tale that wraps perfectly within what the NCAA likes to promote. In this HBO Real Sports segment it appears as though the story was not factually accurate and that Juan’s father is in fact alive.
Without having seen the segment you can assume the father that Juan knew died of AIDS but looks like that is not his birth father.
