For the first time in Adrian Peterson’s 10-year career, he is set to become a free agent March 9. Previously, AP has expressed his interest in the New York Giants, Houston Texans, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Now, according to ESPN, the Raiders have expressed their interest in the former All-Pro back and the level of interest is mutual. This past season, star quarterback Derek Carr had the league’s lowest sack rate.
At the NFL combine in Indy, Vikings general manager Rick Spielman gave insight on his conversation with Peterson.
“I told him there are some areas we’d like to address. The one thing you can’t predict is what the market is going to be. Usually, you have expectations coming into this market, when we get into the negotiating window with other free agents next week. You may have expectations today, and those expectations all of a sudden change within a week. If we go specifically after some specific positions in free agency, and we’re planning to spend ‘X’ amount of dollars, and all of a sudden those dollars increase, we have to adjust our game plan.”
Peterson only played in three games in 2016, in which he rushed for only 72 yards on 37 carries.
