According to Alachua County court records former Florida Gators defensive lineman Caleb Brantley has been charged with battery after fighting with a woman leaving her unconscious.
With some projections having him going in the first round of this week’s draft, Brantley was expecting to be drafted but things have certainly changed for the lineman.
The incident took place at a bar where a woman told police that Brantley made crude comments toward her during an argument on April 13, and she then pushed him. The complaint said Brantley responded by hitting her in the face knocking her unconscious and causing her to lose a tooth.
Brantley was initially listed as the victim in a Gainesville Police Department report but was charged Friday with misdemeanor battery. Police say, two witnesses saw the lineman punch the woman. Another woman who was there said she saw Brantley
“strike the [woman] in the face with a closed fist knocking [her] unconscious.”
The document states that Brantley’s action was “clearly out of retaliation and not self-defense” and “far exceeded what was reasonable or necessary.”
With the NFL Draft this week we won’t have long to wait to see what teams if any still show interest in Caleb Brantley.
