This is so sad.
There is way too much gun violence for a kid who by all accounts wasn’t looking for trouble to get twice in six months.
A McKinley High School senior on the verge of graduating who had quarterbacked the school’s football team died of a gunshot wound Saturday, according to East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Beau Clark.
McKinley football coach Ken Hilton confirmed that Bryant Lee, 18, was one of three people shot early Saturday. It was second time this school year Lee had been shot.
Saturday’s shooting happened around 2 a.m. in the 1100 block of Sparrow Street near Kingfisher Avenue and the other two victims suffered minor injuries, EMS spokesman Mike Chustz said. Lee was shot once in the head, Baton Rouge Police Department spokesman Sgt. L’Jean McKneely said.
Lee was previously shot in the leg in a drive-by shooting in November, but was home the next day and told a reporter from The Advocate over the phone that he was doing fine.
Lee, who had a 3.5 grade point average, was to have graduated Wednesday, Hilton said. He said Lee planned to attend Southern University where he wanted to walk on to the football team.
Just tragic all the way around.
RIP.
