DAAAAAAAAMN!!! From Craig, Smokey, and a $3.5 million dollar budget for “Friday” to The Rock, Vin Diesel, and a balling $1 BILLION dollars (and counting) at the box office, F. Gary Gray is making money. . . AND history.
According to indiewire.com, the international success of “Fate of the Furious” has made our man F.G.G. the first African-American to direct a billion-dollar movie.
The eighth entry in the “Furious” franchise currently stands at about $1.2 billion, with more than 80% of that business outside North America – making this the unusual (and welcome) case of a black director’s film making the bulk of its money outside the U.S.
Gray is getting that overseas “we-love-Action-and-don’t-care-who-makes-it” paper. We see you, Playa!
Congrats from The Culture.
