I think Ben Simmons is versatile enough to make this work, and if I’m the the Colangelo’s and Sixers brass, I explore the hope the 76ers could land Lonzo Ball in the draft.
According to ESPN’s Chris Haynes — the former UCLA is not with the Celtics green, but is reportedly considering working out for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Sixers general manager Bryan Colangelo and Ball’s agent, Harrison Gaines are expected to meet in the next month or so to discuss how Ball could fit in forming the Sixers identity going forward.
League sources said the concern regarding the Ball-Sixers link is the organization’s plan to feature forward Ben Simmons, the No. 1 pick in the 2016 draft, in a ball dominant, point-forward role next season.
Under those basketball circumstances, it wouldn’t appear to be an ideal pairing. Ball is a playmaking point guard who figures to need the ball in his hands to maximize his true potential. However, the Sixers believe Ball and Simmons can mesh at a high level, sources say.
The news comes on the heels of Celtics general manager Danny Ainge revealing that Ball “politely said no” to an invitation for a workout with Boston.
LaVar Ball had previously stated that his son would only workout for his hometown Lakers and no other teams. Is this just talk, or possibly Lonzo and LaVar reacting to Magic Johnson comparing the elder Ball to a Jenner/Kardashian.
This could get interesting.
