$10 million dollars? Where do we sign? Is the answer you would expect.
LaVar Ball reportedly turned down a major shoe deal with Nike, Adidas and Under Armour. All 3 companies were planning to offer Ball a $10 million dollar shoe deal, but the offer was declined by Ball in hopes of a more lucrative contract.
Now, you would think that after all the talks of the Big Baller Brand begin the next big thing the contract would’ve been a no brainer. Three of the top sports brands are joining forces to offer an unproven player a shoe deal. But that wasn’t LaVar’s mindset, he wants more.
Many are thinking that Ball just may have squandered millions for sticking behind his own brand. In this case sticking to his so called ”guns” may not have the out as he is hoping for. ESPN’s Darren Rovell, was the first to report the news of the offer decline. Rovell says
” LaVar Ball, who believes Big Baller Brand could become the next sneaker and apparel giant, could’ve doubled his son’s deal after the Los Angeles Lakers seized the No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft lottery.”
But again, he refused.
”It’s strange to me that LaVar didn’t at least fold some of his cards and go back to the shoe companies in earnest,” Rovell said. “After the Lakers thing goes down and the perfect scenario is going to unfold, the new deal, Nike (to) five years and $20 million. But what does LaVar Ball do? Instead of saying he now wants $1 billion, he now wants $3 billion.”
He also goes on to say he feels that his continued efforts makes the story a lot more intriguing in that he’s continuing to go along with the fact he believes this is going to be a real brand.
You have to hand it to Ball, there is obviously a method to his madness. Between the constant media attention, and selling out of the shoes no one expected him to sell, let’s just admit it he may be on to something.
Now we’ll just have to wait and his what’s his next move is.
