The Rams first made waves in 2014 by drafting Michael Sam, the first openly gay player to ever enter the NFL draft.
Now they’re taking inclusion another step by being the first NFL team to sponsor a full on Gay Pride event. Further details via TMZ :
The team has joined up with Venice Pride — the organization behind the massive Venice Pride block party — and has sponsored the blue lights in the letter “C” in the famous VENICE sign. Each letter in the sign will be lit up with a different color — just like the rainbow LGBTQ pride flag. The event begins June 2.
Rams V.P. of community affairs, Molly Higgens spoke on the organization showing the way when it comes to LGBT relations, & the NFL:
“I thought of it as an opportunity to offer support of diversity, something that publicly displays our internal values and encourages acceptance and equality across the board.”
The Chargers, also to be based in Los Angeles; have agreed to provide support for the event as well.
