Well if you want someone to truly tell Bill Maher how the African American community really feels, Rap Legend Ice Cube is the one to do it.
Ice Cube gave the “Real Time” host Bill Maher a much needed culture lesson Friday night. The late-night comedian casually used the n-word during the live broadcast of last week’s show. Triggering what can be called a national controversy about the modern use of racial slurs. Ice Cube gives the host an insider’s view of what the N-word really does when spoken by people who are not African Americans.
Symone Sanders who was also on set during Ice Cube’s visit, was asked her opinion on the subject and she gave quite the lesson herself. Dropping historical African American facts and even touching on the recent LeBron N-word incident. Both Ice Cube and Sanders did not spare feelings when speaking on the topic. As it should be, the N-word was originally intended as an insult to African Americans.
Maher opened the celebrity guest segment and immediately jumped right into preparing himself for Ice Cube’s thoughts. In the video Ice Cube sits at the table and immediately says,
“I knew you were going to f*ck up sooner or later.”
I don’t think Bill was prepared for that one, the rapper said that he had accepted Maher’s apology. But also pointed out that the use of the N-word by anyone, is unacceptable. Ice Cube even went as far as comparing the host to a red-neck trucker.
Turing what is usually a show full of political satire and borderline racial jokes into a teaching lesson for not only Maher, but the viewing audience as well. Which in my opinion couldn’t have been done any better. All done without Ice Cube ever raising his voice or engaging in argument.
Maher also squeezed in time to talk about his album ” Death Certificate” re-release, which gave Ice Cube the chance to touch on his new single “Good Cop Bad Cop”, and the growing tension between police and the African American community.
