The Cavaliers are back in the news, only this time it’s not about free agency.
Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert is apologizing after a photo on a downtown Detroit building has spiraled into media blacklash. The graphic image ad is apart of a marketing ad for Gilbert’s company, Bedrock Detroit.
The poster featured several white people and the slogan, “See Detroit like we do.”
After photos of the ad surfaced social media began to swell with comments regarding the lack of “color” in the ad. This is Detroit right ?
According to the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau statistics, nearly 83 percent of Detroit is American American. And with a 7 year gap, without a doubt the population has grown since the census was taken.
Gilbert posted a public apology Sunday night on Facebook, also adding that he has since ended the ad campaign.
Although Gilbert has removed the ad, the uproar on social media has yet to subsides. Fans and organization supporters are outraged by the lack of reality in the ad. Some feel that the ad is a form of erasing black culture, as Detroit is home to Motown. Playing off the ad’s depiction of a white man playing the horn.
