One would imagine when Taxstone decided to plead guilty to weapons charge he thought that would be the final charge against him.
Prosecutors though have come back and decided to charge him with murder.
A hip-hop podcaster was indicted Thursday for the murder of a rapper’s bodyguard during a wild shootout at a T.I. concert at Irving Plaza last year.
Taxstone, whose legal name is Daryl Campbell, was charged with second degree murder for the fatal shooting of Ronald McPhatter, 33, during a May 25, 2016, confrontation between Taxstone and Troy Ave, the Crown Heights rapper who sometimes hired McPhatter as a bodyguard, prosecutors said.
Troy Ave, who was shot in the leg that night, was arrested the next day on attempted murder and weapons charges after police released video of the rapper dashing out of the VIP area and firing off a shot from a handgun as bystanders dove for cover.
Taxstone was arrested more than half a year later, after investigators linked him to the murder weapon. He pleaded guilty to federal weapons charges in June and is currently awaiting sentencing.
Taxstone is looking at 20 years for the weapons charge and substantially longer if he is found guilty of murder.
He pleaded not guilty to that charge.
