Jon Gruden has not coached in the NFL since 2008 and his Super Bowl Championship was captured 15 years ago.
The itch to rejoin the ranks as an NFL Head Coach however still remains in the back of his mind.
“I’ve met with several people—I won’t deny that,” Gruden said. “People—just about every year I talk about coming back to coach. I’m not in here every day at 4:30 or 4:00 in the morning watching pinball. You know? I’m preparing myself to come back. I am. Every day. I’m preparing to come back.”
Gruden has a gravy gig on ESPN in a number of roles. Aside from Monday Night Football, you can find him covering the NFL Draft or putting young QB’s under the microscope in Gruden’s QB Camp.
None of these situations involve Monday morning quarterbacks or the fluid nature of Head Coaching jobs. The idea of a comeback does give Gruden leverage for more money to remain in the same glorious job he already owns.
