Lonzo Ball went off for 36 points, 11 assists, and 8 rebounds during last night’s NBA Summer League game against the Sixers, and LeBron James was in the audience to witness the talented young player.
LeBron’s presence at the game fueled speculation as to why he was there. Was LeBron scouting Lonzo because of what LaVar Ball said earlier this year about LeBron’s sons? Or was he there to see if Lonzo is good enough to be a future teammate? LeBron was asked about what he thought of Lonzo’s play and he responded to ESPN simply with this quote:
“He can really pass.”
LaVar Ball also spoke to ESPN and they asked him what a Lakers team with LeBron and Lonzo on it would look like.
“Lonzo and LeBron? Come on man,” LaVar Ball told ESPN. “That’s the real deal. You don’t want to give (Lonzo) the best player in the world. You don’t want to give Lonzo the best player in the world and don’t get no championship? Shoot.”
LeBron will be a free agent in 2018, which stands to be one of the craziest summers since 2010. LeBron is not a Lavar fan right now, but I think he would be able to put that aside in order to play with a pass first point guard like Lonzo. We will find out shortly what kind of player Lonzo really is, but LeBron paying attention this early is a sign that something big could happen in the summer of 2018.
