Now that the “Fight of the Century” has gone down & the money is being counted; it’s looking like Showtime may have to come up off some of that dough, as fans who paid, but didn’t get to see the fight are gearing up for a court battle.
The Jasmine Brand explains further:
“Instead of being upfront with consumers about its new, untested, underpowered service, defendant caused likelihood of confusion and misunderstanding as to the source and quality of the HD video consumers would see on fight night. Defendant intentionally misrepresented the quality and grade of video consumers would see using its app, and knowingly failed to disclose that its system was defective with respect to the amount of bandwidth available, and that defendant’s service would materially fail to conform to the quality of HD video defendant promised.”
The complainants are seeking full refunds for the fight, or $200 in statutory damages, whichever comes out to be greater.
“We have received a very limited number of complaints and will issue a full refund for any customer who purchased the event directly from Showtime and were unable to receive the telecast.”
As long as you bought the fight through Showtimeppv.com or the Showtime PPV app, you should have an easy time getting your money back.
UFC Fight Pass customers who struggled with the same issues seem to be having a more difficult time.
