What Dez Bryant is saying isn’t that unusual.
Some players would rather just talk about football and keep their focus on the field than speak on the things that are going on in our society.
It doesn’t mean they don’t care, it is just they are keenly aware how certain comments can affect their finances and job security (see Colin Kaepernick).
Dez Bryant is high-profile player on a high-profile team so anything he says is going to blow up and in this case it is what he didn’t say that blew up.

This is where Dez gets in trouble. This comment rubbed people the wrong way, they wanted him to make a strong statement, but in my mind I rather someone say I don’t want to talk about it, than say what Hue Jackson said.
It is a pretty mundane statement that Dez made and he should have left it at that, but instead he started talking on Twitter and started digging his hole.
When Dez says he has a family to feed he unintentionally points out what a lot of NFL players are feeling. Yes, they are black and care about what is going on, but because of how NFL salaries are they can’t take the risk of speaking out too much because their contracts aren’t guaranteed.
It doesn’t take long to go from an all-pro to out of the league, staring at a ton of debt and no money coming in.
In this case, it would have been best for Dez just to stand by the original comment he made and stayed off social media. But by speaking out, now you know why many black NFL players have been silent on Colin Kaepernick’s blackballing and social issues.
