Jon Jones has tested positive for steroids again after defeating Daniel Cormier at UFC 214. Jones has been stripped of the title and a lengthy ban from the UFC is likely in the works. Jones’ manager Malki Kawa and his team have released a statement on the latest positive steroid test and their plans to retest the sample.
Here are the details from MMAfighting.com
“We are all at a complete loss for words right now. Jon, his trainers, his nutritionists and his entire camp have worked tirelessly and meticulously the past 12 months to avoid this exact situation. We are having the samples tested again to determine the validity or source of contamination. Jon is crushed by this news and we are doing whatever we can as a team, to support him.”
The statement from Jones’ camp alludes to a contamination issue as the cause for the positive result, which could play into the appeals process after a suspension is handed down. Since this is Jones’ second positive test, a ban of up to four years could be handed down. This is an unfortunate turn of events for Jones and the UFC as yet again, as one of their biggest stars will be sidelined for an extensive period of time. Unless the upcoming sample retest can clear Jones of any wrong doing, the UFC will be without a marquee star until Conor McGregor returns to the Octagon.
