Colin Kaepernick made headlines last season with a repeated silent protest during the playing of the national anthem prior to each game by taking a knee. This was his way of bringing attention to police brutality towards minorities in the United States and social injustice all over the world. He has become a lightning rod topic among people in all walks of life however most the the NFL has stayed silent until recently.
Kaepernick has a short list of “football people” to openly support his ability and commitment to be apart of a NFL roster this upcoming season. Seattle Seahawks GM John Schneider can now be added to that list after an interview with the NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.
“Colin Kaepernick is committed to football, there’s no question about it.”
Last week the Baltimore Ravens executives made multiple statements concerning the embattled quarterback becoming apart of their roster with Ravens Team President Jeff Zrebiec expressing the organizations direct contact with Kaepernick.
“He’s committed to football. We’ve learned that he very much wants to play. We still have a process that we’re going through. We really have not made a decision yet one way or the other.”
Back on July 1st, rookie 49ers GM John Lynch also stated that Kaepernick is fully committed to football and even gave a look into how free agents should go about their business when it comes to looking for a new roster in the NFL. Lynch in an interview with Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith said the following,
“I think the way you could best help yourself is not to have someone talk for you, not have statements, but go sit down and give an interview and let people know where you stand because he makes a compelling case as to how bad he wants to be in the league when you talk to him,”
Every NFL executive that has had direct contact with Colin Kaepernick has not had any question about his commitment to the game of football and being apart of a NFL roster. Kaepernick’s resume includes two NFC Championship appearances and he came within a few inches of being a Superbowl winner in the 2012 season. History shows that it is rare for a quarterback with these credentials to still be a free agent this late in the off season.
