Shame on you Tim Brown. The Raiders legend and NFL Hall of Famer spoke to TMZ Sports and is against Marshawn Lynch’s anthem protest, saying: “Why bring negativity, to this incredible, positive situation?” Lynch sat during the national anthem of the Raiders most recent preseason game and it has obviously drawn attention. To be clear, this isn’t new for Lynch he has been protesting injustices in America off and on over the last 11 years. Some things are made public others are not.
What was so terrifying, was Brown’s detachment from the reasons for Lynch’s protest. Brown placed the Raiders organization, and football above real world issues and human decency. He parroted a refrain common among a certain segment of fans, saying: “football is where people go to get away from that stuff.”
What “stuff” is that Tim? Racial injustice, police brutality, the criminalization of the poor? That’s just “stuff” to Tim Brown. Sports is a microcosm of society, and players have a platform. If they choose to use it to promote basic human decency and equality, I’m not so sure why that is a problem.
