Titans receiver Rishard Matthews might have just skyrocketed up my list of favorite NFL players & it has nothing to do with anything he’s done on the field.
Despite posting career highs in catches (65), yards (945), & touchdowns (9) last season, Matthews is making an even bolder statement with his new leg tattoo paying respects to the last scandal-free first family to occupy the White House.
The full tattoo is described in today’s edition of The Tennessean:
The piece depicts two Greek gods facing each other with the inscription “The World is Yours” adorned atop their heads. The gods are a representation of his kids, Zayden and Penelope, and the tattoo connects to a portrait of another duo Matthews holds dear to him: former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle.
When asked about the piece, here’s how Matthews responded:
“The first president I voted for, first black president, first black first lady,” said Matthews, 27. “Myself being African American, they’re obviously great role models and they let the black community and minorities, in general, know that the sky is the limit if you put your mind to it.”
It’s refreshing to hear NFL athletes reminisce on the Obama’s time in the White House, considering what’s going on up in there currently.
It’s also nice to hear Black athletes verbalize their pride in the fact they were apart of American History, helping the Obamas win back-to-back terms. No matter how you feel about their politics, you can’t deny they represented all of us with maximum dignity, intelligence, & class. Personally, I’ll always be grateful to them for that.
