Andre Ward Announces Retirement & #Boxing Twitter Reacts (Video)

Early Thursday, unified light heavyweight world champion Andre Ward surprised boxing fans by announcing his retirement.

Sharing a video on his twitter account with the caption ‘MISSION ACCOMPLISHED,’ Ward leaves the sport undefeated after fighting under a lucrative deal with promoter Roc Nation Sports and HBO, the network that broadcasted his fights.

Ward released the following statement on his website:

“I want to be clear – I am leaving because my body can no longer put up with the rigors of the sport and therefore my desire to fight is no longer there,” the statement said. “If I cannot give my family, my team, and my fans everything that I have, then I should no longer be fighting. Above all, I give God the glory, for allowing me to do what I’ve done, for as long as I have.”
