Keeping with last season’s tradition, Game 1 of the WNBA Finals was a thriller and this year’s hero was Chelsea Gray.
With 3.3 seconds winding down on the clock, Gray launched a fall away jumper to put the Sparks ahead by 1 point for a final score of 85-84. The defending champions now take a 1-0 lead in the WNBA finals.
Gray scored a 27 points and Candace Parker added 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Sparks.
The Lynx Moore dished in a bucket that put the Lynx ahead with 6.5 seconds left in the game, but that was plenty of time for Gray. With no timeouts remaining Minnesota couldn’t attempt a final shot.
