The Pensacola News Journal is reporting that 9 year old Dericka Lindsay is dead as a result of being sat on by her 325 pound cousin Veronica Green Posey. Police have arrested and charged Posey with homicide along with three other adults and charged them with child neglect and cruelty.
The police report details abuse on the part of Posey and Lindsay’s parents included being hit with a ruler and metal pipe. This is disgusting and an awful story. According to the report Posey was called to get Lindsay under control because she was acting out. No matter what a child is doing, sitting on her to the point of suffocation and death is murder and the perpetrators need to be punished.
The Florida Department of Children and Families issued a statement:
Dericka’s death is appalling and DCF will continue coordinating with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office to hold anyone responsible for her death accountable. As the family has a prior interaction with the child welfare system, a thorough quality assurance review will be conducted to review all prior interactions this family has had with the child welfare system.
Posey’s bond was set at $125,000 and she has been released. For murder there should be no bail.
