This is the 25th boxing event at the Barclays Center in the 5 years that they have been running boxing matches. If that’s not impressive, we’re not sure what is. Tonight, Erickson Lubin takes on Jermell Charlo. On the other hand, Erislandy Lara takes on Terrell Gausha. BSO previews tonight’s bouts.
These 154-pound boxers have a lot in store for us tonight. While Erislandy Lara promises to own the 154-pound division, he knows that age is something that’s not on his side. His opponent Terrell Gausha is a young undefeated Olympian who is just climbing up the ladder.
“I know that Gausha is a young undefeated Olympian who’s coming to take my title. But I don’t need to worry about him. I’ve got to worry about what I’m bringing into this fight.”
Lara isn’t worried about him at all because his eyes are elsewhere as he’s eyeing other opponents. However, this fight could very well determine his future so we hope he puts his gloves where his mouth is. Gausha believes he’ll be tonight’s winner but he knows what he’s up against.
“[Lara] has a lot of experience. He’s crafty. I haven’t been in camp with the type of fighters he’s been in there with. That pressure – I use it to my advantage. When I win, it’s going to be a big notch for me to show that I’m at the top of my division.“He’s the champion so I know that he knows what he’s up against. I feel like he’s trained real well. I’m looking for the best Erislandy Lara come fight night because I trained hard and I’m ready.”
As we’re sure you may have heard, Gausha knows that he’s the underdog but I don’t think he is at all. He has a lot of power and his training camp has gone relatively well. He has a chance to really prove himself and he might walk away winning tonight. He’s hungry for it and as he said, “I’m made for the bright lights.”
Another fight that have people talking is Erickson Lubin vs Jermell Charlo. In all honesty, this really should’ve been the headliner because the boxing world is super excited about it. The 154-pound division is going to flourish even more. The moment these two enter the ring, it’s a time for words to come to end and put those gloves up.
Lubin didn’t have much to say when it came to the press conferences this past week. He’s just ready to become the WBC champion.
“In these types of situations, I feel like I’ve got to keep my composure. There are a lot of cameras, a lot of lights, but I was born to do this. I’m keeping my composure but I’m going to let it all out Saturday night. We’re both going to go in there fully prepared. It’s all about who wants it more. I feel like there’s nobody in this division who wants it more than me. Just because he’s been sparring Errol Spence, that doesn’t mean a thing.”
You can tell that he’s studied his opponent. The topic of bright lights seems to be popular regarding tonight’s fights. They know the attention is going to be on them.
Charlo isn’t going to let this happen easily. He kept it pretty brief but his words are daggers regarding Lubin.
“I think my fight is the one the people want to see [on the card]. My opponent is a young stud and he comes to win a world title. Is Lubin the best fighter I’ve faced? I’m 29-0 and I’ve fought a lot of great fighters. You can’t talk about what’s on paper and what’s not.”
Charlo is ready to put this match in writing. The trash talk has been real between these two. It’s also going to be a savage fight. We’re going to have to pick Lubin because he might come out of the woodworks with something. However, Lubin is the more experienced fighter. Lubin’s very well conditioned and fireworks will be very well present tonight.
The action starts tonight on Showtime at 10 pm.
