The University of Tennessee is looking for a new head coach after they had a last minute change of heart over hiring Greg Schiano. Ex UT standout Albert Haynesworth advocated for his former teammate Tee Martin as a possible replacement. Martin was the qb of the 1998 national championship team and has worked his way up from a WR/QB coach to offensive coordinator of the USC Trojans. Martin would of course be the first black head coach at UT and that is problematic in SEC country, for all the obvious reasons.
Martin shouldn’t get the job solely because he’s black and he shouldn’t be denied the opportunity to interview because he is. A coach with proven X and O and recruiting track record that led your university to it’s only national title should at least be on the short list.
