During Lonzo Ball’s freshman year at UCLA along when when he got drafted, he garnered many comparisons to future hall of fame point guard Jason Kidd. Kidd was arguably one of the best passers the NBA had ever seen and Ball’s game resembled Kidd’s to many people.
Kidd has finally weighed in on the comparisons. The now Milwaukee Bucks head coach appeared on ESPN First Take Today to address it.
“The first thing when making those comparisons, does someone play hard for 48 minutes and are you willing to do anything to win?” Kidd said. “He has to understand what it means to play hard and what it means to win and how to win at the highest level. It takes time. Hopefully, in three years, maybe there is a better comparison. But right now, it is a stretch, and he has a ways to go.”
Kidd did not want to brush off Ball’s potential though as he’s still in the early stages of his first year.
“It’s going to take a little time because of all the hype and expectations that everybody thought he was going to come out and set the league on fire,” said Kidd. “He still has the skill set that a lot of guys don’t have in this league, and that’s making his teammates better.”
Ball is currently averaging 8.8 PPG, 6.8 APG, & 6.3 RPG through 11 games. Through Kidd’s first 11 games of his career, he averaged 9.8 PPG, 6.4 APG, & 6.5 RPG.
