Mudbound chronicles the story of two families, one white and the other black, co-existing in the muddy Mississippi delta but living two very different lives. Taking place in the World War II era, Mudbound, based on a 2008 novel by Hillary Jordan, follows the lives of two poor families, white farmers and black sharecroppers, who work on the land and respectively send their sons off to war.
Upon their return, they struggle to deal with racism and adjusting to life after war.
Mary J. Blige, who stars as Florence Jackson, shared her thoughts on the red carpet explaining how the film echoes today’s societal intolerance. Sharing a very stripped down version of herself in this film (don’t expect any of Blige’s signature glam), Blige is generating award season buzz with her performance.
Co-stars Rob Morgan, Lucy Faust, Frankie Smith and others
Mudbound opens in theaters and on Netflix on November 17.
