NFL owners have asked Jerry Jones to stop blocking Roger Goodell’s contract extension. Jones has made it clear that he doesn’t want Goodell’s extension to go through, but fellow owners have sent a letter directly to the Cowboys’ owner telling him to “Cease and Desist”.
NFL owners are critical of the manner in which Jones has addressed the issue. They don’t like how he took it public by leaking what they deem is false damaging information to the media, calling on Papa John’s to disparage the leadership of the NFL, and lastly threatening to sue teams and the National Football League.
Jones received a letter from NFL owners telling him that his “antics” amount to “conduct detrimental to the league’s best interests” per Mike Florio. The letter was directed to David Boies, whom Jones hired as his lawyer to consider potential litigation.
NFL owners have threatened Jones with possible fines, forfeiture of draft picks, and a suspension if his behavior regarding Goodell’s contract extension doesn’t change.
