The full list of 2018 Grammy nominations has been released and as usual, there’s been some questionable choices & snubs.
Every year we have some artists upset about the recording academy seeming to be out of touch with the culture, particularly the hip-hop categories. Not saying they don’t have legitimate gripes, but I think it’s clear that as long as the powers that be stay as they are, nothing on that front is going to change too much.
Q-Tip is the latest artist to feel a type of way about the process, after Tribe Called Quest’s latest 2016 release ‘We Got It From Here…Thank You 4 Your Service‘ was completely left off all ballots & basically out of the year’s music conversation (according to the Recording Academy of course).
What makes matters worse is Tribe JUST missed out on competing for a Grammy last year, having missed the album submission deadline.
They performed there though:
All signs seemed to be pointing at least one nomination this year, given the album they dropped was pretty good. If you were already a Tribe fan, you enjoyed it. Nothing trendsetting, but it was their trademarked sound.
Is Q-Tip wrong for feeling some type of way about his group being snubbed with no nominations this year, or is he coming off as ‘hating from outside the club’?
Anyways, flip the page to see Q-Tip saying “FUCK THE GRAMMY’S!” after 2018 snub.
(Interestingly enough, he seems to lay part of the blame on 9th wonder as well):
