Al Michaels has been arrested and causally drops Weinstein jokes on air (he compared the Giants to Weinstein sexually assaulting multiple women).
Michaels from the beginning of the season has been talking slick about black athletes protesting against racism and police brutality, finally last night he pointed out how he really felt with an very insensitive remark.
Michaels and Collinsworth, who routinely avoid discussing pertinent off-field issues, went all-in on players who kneel during a brief discussion of the topic. Collinsworth talked about the complexity of the issue, whereas Michaels called it the “ultimate distraction.” The legendary play-by-play voice also said the “league hates it.”
Asking for basic human rights isn’t a distraction. Asking for cops not to murder people they are sworn to protect isn’t a distraction.
It is a distraction for old white men who are enjoying their privilege.
Is NBC in on this? Did they tell Michaels what to say or did this come from even higher place the NFL?
I want it to be noted that athletes are peacefully protesting, no one told NBC to randomly start speaking on in the middle of the game. How is one a distraction when they didn’t ask you to talk about.
Full clown show for both Michaels and Collinsworth.
