Saying “I’m a man,” and “I’m not going to let someone disrespect me” is the most childish and overplayed cliche in our society. What being a man really means is having the DISCIPLINE to look someone in the eye, control your emotions, and walk away. https://t.co/S4qC1CcRfx

This is a trash take, but not a surprising one.
Black people are always told to turn the other cheek. We are always told that we should comply. We are always told we are the cause of our own problems. We are told if we stop talking about racism it will go away.
Even if we did all of that, guess what?
We are still disrespected by people, law enforcement and the President.
So, why is it childish that we stand up for ourselves when obviously no one is standing up for us? USA Today has Jefferson comments.
After being ejected late in the fourth quarter after a heated confrontation with the Jaguars, Jefferson was jogging toward the tunnel that leads to the visiting locker room at EverBank Field when video footage showed something fly just over his head. Jefferson took off his helmet and walked toward the stands as sideline staff attempted to restrain him.
“I’m not going to let somebody disrespect me, throw a beer on me,” Jefferson said. “Just because I’m playing football, I’m still a human being. I’m still a man.”
Jefferson wasn’t being treated like a human being he was being treated like a subhuman and had enough. I commend him on it, just because you play football doesn’t mean you should be disrespected.
But, white men like Thomas and Pete Carroll will excuse the actions of the people actually causing the problems.
“I don’t even know what happened,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said of Jefferson. “He just kind of lost it.
“Somebody poured a beer on his head as he was walking out of the stadium. I told him that’s pro football. They pay to get in. They can do whatever they want, I guess.”
See how the onus is on Jefferson but not the fans.
That is white privileged to the highest degree.
