The word of the day ladies and gentleman is……..
CONTEXT
I have a close friend that always tell me that it is hard to read context via text messages. Sometimes what you really mean and how the person receives it is very differently.
ESPN released edited text messages between John Buccigross and Adrienne Lawrence to discredit her claim she was sexually harassed. The Boston Globe decided to release the full unedited versions of the text messages.
One thing that I immediately noticed is if you just look at the texts with no context one would assume that Buccigross and Lawrence might be dating or at least very close friends. The texts by themselves do not paint Buccigross as a bad guy and frankly in the lot of the messages he seems like a very good guy who Lawrence could depend on when she needed someone to talk to.
In one of the texts Buccigross says he won’t go to a restaurant ever again after Lawrence confided in him that the restaurant had discriminated against her.
But, to understand the full context of what was happening to Lawrence you have to read her actual complaint against ESPN. It paints Buccigross is a much different light , as someone who consistently pursued a physical relationship with her that she didn’t want and ESPN as a company that once she complained about this decided to demote her.
Flip the page you can read all the texts messages in their entirety and the full complaint, I would strongly suggest reading both before coming to your own conclusion.
