ESPN is going through a major shake up. After getting caught up, in every way possible, mainly political, they’re looking to re-focus on sports. Somehow, sports and politics don’t cross or intersect each other. Players are robots and aren’t aware of what’s happening in society.
With a re-focus on sports, ESPN is looking to sell Nate Silver’s, FiveThirtyEight. FiveThirtyEight uses numbers to tell stories in all aspects, from sports of course, but also science, economics and politics.
ESPN sent a statement to BigLead about their time with FiveThirtyEight and the future.
FiveThirtyEight is a tremendous asset to ESPN, and together we’ve created exceptional content. We are exploring, with Nate, a variety of options for the future, and any discussion of exactly what that might look like would be premature
This move is obviously being made for people who feel ESPN is too political and ESPN just wants to wash its of anything political unless they absolutely have to report on it.
