Akon is famous for more than just his music. His organization Akon Lighting Africa has brought solar power to 15 African countries powering 100,000 street lamps,1200 solar micro-grids and creating over 5400 jobs. Five months after Hurricane Maria, over 80% of residents have had their power restored, however, there are over 900,000 residents that still do not have power and unfortunately their plight has faded from the news cycle. TMZ caught up to Akon and he shared his story on how his proposed plan to power Puerto Rico in 30 days was rejected by the U.S. government.
