Moviegoers in Sparta Township, New Jersey were planning to enjoy a fun night out of seeing Black Panther but a racist bigot had to ruin that. During a screening of the film, a white woman starting yelling a series of racial slurs, notably the n-word.
The movie was stopped after audience members confronted and yelled at the woman, accoring to Sgt. John Lamon. He appluaded the audience for taking a stand and not letting a racist have their way.
“I think the people in that movie theater acted appropriately,” Lamon said. “Basically, they were not going to put up with that kind of nonsense.” (via NorthJersey.com.)
Despite saluting the audience for confronting the woman, police gave a horrible explanation for why the woman wasn’t arrested as they claimed that only one person could identify who was yelling the slurs. One person witnessing this incident should be grounds for providing arrest.
“She could have been arrested for a bias crime if she directed her comments at someone, especially a person of color, but that was not the case,” said Lamon.
Although the woman was not arrested, she was banned by the movie theater and members of the audience were given vouchers to see Black Panther another day.
