When Jerry Richardson announced that the Carolina Panthers would do up for sale, three big questions loomed – to who, for how much, and whether or not the team would remain in Charlotte.
While the verdict is still out on the possible relocation of the team, a number of names have been rumored to be interested. David Tepper, Ben Navarro, Felix Sabates and Frank and Lorenzo Feritta have been rumored as potential buyers according to the Charlotte Observer.
Experts have estimated a price tag between $2.3 billion and $2.8 billion. Ownership can be shared by up to 25 people, but one person must own at least 30 percent which is due up front. That totals to at least $690 million.
A bidding war could mean a difference of about half a billion dollars when it’s all said and done.
Hip hop mogul Diddy expressed his interest the same night that Richardson made his announcement. Colin Kaepernick and Steph Curry both mentioned that they want in on the purchase but the hype has since died down.
