Former pound-for-pound King, and future Hall-of-Fame inductee, Roy Jones Jr. says his goodbye from the ring on Thursday night forever.
Allegedly.
Tonight Jones will compete in his 75th bout, at cruiserweight limit, against Scott Sigmon in front of his hometown fans at the Pensacola Bay Center center in Florida. Fans around the world waiting to see Jones make his final hurrah will be able to watch on UFC Fight Pass which is offering a seven-day free trial.
Defeating a cadre of elite fighters during the course of his career, which includes Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, Montell Griffin and John Ruiz, Jones goes down in history as one of the greatest of all time.
But, this IS Roy Jones Jr.
Who’s to say he will retire after tonight’s fight should he emerge victoriously? He’s been known to announce retirement plans only to change his mind in the past. In fact, not long after announcing this “final fight” he doubled down on his still-burning desire to fight MMA star Anderson Silva if only UFC head Dana White would give the ok.
If it is Jones final fight, best of luck and the count is on to the Hall-of-Fame. Not to mention his announcing duties on Saturday nights as part of HBO’s broadcast team.
If it isn’t, maybe we’ll see another MMA/boxing event between him and Silva.
In honor of Roy Jones Jr. of tonight’s festivities, flip the page and listen to interviews with Roy Jones Jr. and BSO staffer Jeandra LeBeauf.
Y’all musta forgot Roy makes for a great interview.
