Johnny Manziel on Battling Depression & Bipolar Disorder by “Self-Medicating” With Alcohol (Video)

Time is running out on an NFL comeback for Johnny Manziel, so he is taking steps to rebuild his public image with an in-depth interview on Good Morning America.  In the interview, Manziel reveals that he has been battling a bipolar disorder and depression, and would often self-medicate with alcohol to treat his conditions.

“I was self-medicating with alcohol, that’s what I thought would make me happy and get out of that depression to a point where I felt like I had some sense of happiness,” Manziel said, via KTRK. “At the end of the day, when I would wake up the next day after a night like that going on a trip like that, and you wake up the next day and that is all gone, that liquid courage or that liquid like sense of euphoria that is over you, is all gone.

He further elaborated on the mistakes he made in the NFL and how he “disgraced” himself.

“You are left staring at the ceiling by yourself and in that depression and back in that hole, that dark hole of sitting in a room by yourself, super depressed, thinking about all the mistakes you made in your life, what did that get me? Where did that get me except out of the NFL? Where did that get me? Disgraced?”

Manziel was wearing a  custom Aggies colored “Comeback SZN” sweatshirt to signify that he intends to make it back to the NFL.  Whether he gets another shot in the league will all depend on if teams believe that these admissions by Manziel are sincere this time.   Flip the page for video from the GMA interview.
