The Panthers announced that the team would be up for sale at the conclusion of the 2017 season. This stemmed from then-owner Jerry Richardson’s sexual misconduct within the organization along with hurling racist slurs at an employee.
Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils co-owner Michael Rubin is now trying to become the Carolina Panthers’ new owner, per Darren Rovel of ESPN. Rovel also owns the popular sports apparel website Fanatics.
Other bidders for the Panthers include hedge fund billionaire David Tepper and Ben Navaro who is the CEO of Sherman Financial Group.
Rubin is also considered a favorite by many NFL players due to his youth and personality, according to Rovel. Players embrace him and his repuation is solid in the business world. Rubin is also very close with Meek Mill. He has attempted to use his platform on numerous occasions to try to get Meek freed.
NFL rules made it clear that if Rubin does become the new Panthers owner, he would have to sell his ownership stakes in the 76ers, Devils, and the Crystal Palace.
